The Department of Biological Sciences (DBS) was a result of merger between two of the oldest departments in the Faculty of Science: the Department of Botany, founded in 1949 and the Department of Zoology, founded in 1950. It is the largest department with the most number of staff and teaching the most number of students that enrolled into the Faculty of Science. It aims to provide the best education and research opportunities to our students and to equip them with critical thinking, analytical and communication skills to be future-ready for the new economy. DBS’ teaching and research staff investigate different areas of science such as Human Health, Climate Change and Food Security.
